With March comes the arrival of spring, and not a moment too soon.

The so called "beast from the east" has brought with it some very chilly weather to kick off the month and some warmth now feels very long overdue.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society, the top ten jobs to get on with this month in the garden are as follows:

  • Protect new spring shoots from slugs
  • Plant shallots, onion sets and early potatoes
  • Plant summer-flowering bulbs
  • Lift and divide overgrown clumps of perennials
  • Top dress containers with fresh compost
  • Mow the lawn on dry days (if needed)
  • Cut back Cornus (dogwood) and Salix (willow) grown for colourful winter stems
  • Hoe and mulch weeds to keep them under control early
  • Start feeding fish and using the pond fountain; remove pond heaters
  • Prune bush and climbing roses

To help you with your bulb planting; you'll find life much easier with the right tool, and of course with this being our tool of the month feature - we have just what you need.

With the WOLF-Garten FH-N automatic planter, planting proceeds quite simply at the push of a button.

Bulbs and potted plants up to a diameter of approx. 6 cm can be planted perfectly.
With the button pressed, push the automatic planter into the ground, determine the insertion depth simply by using the scale, release the button and pull out the planter.

Insertion into the ground is facilitated by the sharpened lower edge with cutting teeth.
Next, insert the bulb or plant, squeeze the handle together again and the earth falls back in.
