Tool of the Month - September 2019

Posted in WOLF-Garten Blog by Lee Wills on 03/09/2019

Shorter days with some cooler winds, perfect for reaping the reward of all your hard work - enjoy your garden (woolly jumper optional). Oh and it's the start of harvest time too. September is a wonderful month.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society, the top ten jobs to get on with this month in the garden are as follows:

  • Divide herbaceous perennials
  • Pick autumn raspberries
  • Collect and sow seed from perennials and hardy annuals
  • Dig up remaining potatoes before slug damage spoils them
  • Net ponds before leaf fall gets underway
  • Keep up with watering of new plants, using rain or grey water if possible
  • Start to reduce the frequency of houseplant watering
  • Clean out cold frames and greenhouses so that they are ready for use in the autumn
  • Cover leafy vegetable crops with bird-proof netting
  • Plant spring flowering bulbs

For the Wolf Garten Tool of the Month this September we've chosen theĀ The Wolf Garten Bulb Planter with Fixed Handle (FHN).

The perfect tool to assist you with the planting of bulbs, get them in the ground now for a delightful arrangement of flowers in the spring.

Bulbs and potted plants up to a diameter of approx. 6 cm can be planted perfectly. With the button pressed, push the automatic planter into the ground, determine the insertion depth simply by using the scale, release the button and pull out the planter. Insertion into the ground is facilitated by the sharpened lower edge with cutting teeth. Next, insert the bulb or plant, squeeze the handle together again and the earth falls back in.
